Solstice — wellness design for hotels, spas and retreats.

Solstice is a wellness hospitality design studio — spatial and sensory design, acoustic and scent zoning, wellness strategy, programming and production for hotels, spas and retreats. Wellness is why they choose you, and why they stay longer: designed into the building, not bolted on. Solstice by Solaris · wellness design studio · London.

Introduction

Most contemporary wellness spaces are a last-minute budget addition, not an integrated design system.

Wellness spaces lack a consistent customer journey, focusing on areas that photograph well. They are often not integrated with the surrounding building or site.

We think the space should become a threshold — to transport the customer before they even book a treatment. The light. The materials. The way you move through it. What you hear, and what you don't. These are moments that actually let a body settle, and they're the things most projects leave out.

Solstice starts here. We work with the people & the body to build the next wave of wellness spaces — hotels, retreats, sensory spaces, members' clubs, brands — from the first idea to the finished space and the lasting memory.

Why it matters

Wellness is why people choose where to stay — and pay to stay longer.

But it only works when it's real — when the space is built around genuine rest, not the look of it.

Get that right and it shows up where it counts: longer stays, higher spend, guests who return and bring people with them. A space that makes people feel something is the one they tell their friends about. That's what we're here to design.

What we do

Six ways we shape a wellness space.

Most projects draw on a few at once

From the first strategy to the finished space and the events that keep it alive, we work across six areas — including acoustic zoning: how a room sounds, and where sound is allowed to travel. Most projects draw on a few of them at once.

Spatial design

The space itself — designed around rest, ritual, and the way a body moves.

  • Concept & spatial strategy
  • Spa & wellness-floor layout
  • Threshold, circulation & guest-journey design
  • Material & lighting direction
  • Technical & fabrication drawings

Sensory & acoustic design

Light, sound, scent, texture, temperature — composed as one atmosphere, and zoned so quiet stays quiet.

  • Acoustic zoning & sound design
  • Lighting & circadian design
  • Scent schemes & olfactory identity
  • Material & tactile palettes
  • Mood and atmosphere direction

Brand activations

Bringing a wellness dimension to a brand, a launch, or a moment.

  • Wellness activation concepts
  • Pop-up spas & ritual installations
  • Brand partnerships & sponsorships
  • Experience design for launches and events

Wellness strategy

The thinking before the build — what wellness should mean here, and how it pays.

  • Wellness positioning & concept
  • Offer & programming strategy
  • Revenue and commercial modelling
  • Operator & partner sourcing

Event programming

The living calendar that keeps a space alive after opening.

  • Retreat & residency programmes
  • Class, session & ritual design
  • Practitioner & expert sourcing
  • Seasonal and signature events

Production

Making it real — on time, on budget, to standard.

  • End-to-end production management
  • Fabrication & build
  • Suppliers, logistics & install
  • On-site delivery

Ways to work with us

Four ways in, depending on where you are.

Most start with The Reading

Every project starts with a conversation, and most start with The Reading.

The Reading

A fixed-fee starting point.

For venues deciding what wellness should be for them.

A focused study of your space, your guests, and the opportunity — delivered as a clear concept and a roadmap you can act on, with or without us.

  • Site & guest-journey read
  • Wellness positioning & concept direction
  • Commercial opportunity outline
  • A roadmap for what comes next
Fixed fee · on enquiry

The Design

A full design engagement.

For venues building or renovating a space.

Spatial and sensory design from concept to fabrication-ready, with production oversight if you want us to see it through.

  • Everything in The Reading
  • Full spatial & sensory design
  • Material, light, scent & sound direction
  • Technical & fabrication documentation
  • Production management (optional)
Fixed project fee, staged · on enquiry

The Residency

A named, time-boxed season.

For venues who want a reason for guests to book this quarter.

One season, built around a single theme and — where it earns its place — a partner brand. Designed, programmed and produced end to end, then handed over with everything your team needs to run it again.

  • Theme, name & season concept
  • Partner brand sourcing & agreement
  • Space, ritual & treatment design
  • Launch moment & press assets
  • Handover pack so it can run again
Per residency · on enquiry

The Programme

Ongoing, quarterly.

For a space that's open and needs to stay alive.

The living layer — events, residencies, activations, and brand partnerships — programmed and produced on a rolling basis.

  • Event & residency programming
  • Practitioner & partner sourcing
  • Brand activations & partnerships
  • Production & on-site delivery
Quarterly retainer · on enquiry

The Solstice Method

Every project moves through the same arc.

Seven stages

From understanding the space to what stays with a guest long after they've left — and what brings them back.

Seven stages, one continuous arc that loops back on itself — tap any orb to see how it plays out.

What we hold

Core values.

01

Stillness first

We design for the nervous system before the camera. If a space photographs well but doesn't calm the body, it isn't finished.

02

Ritual over routine

A stay is a sequence of thresholds. We choreograph each one — arrival, bathing, rest — so the journey feels inevitable.

03

Material honesty

Stone that reads as stone. Linen, water and light left to behave like themselves — nothing dressed up as something else.

04

Slow craft

Fewer commissions, held longer. The work is built to age with the building — not to launch and fade.

The intent

How a space can return a person to themselves.

Light as circadian choreography. Material as memory. Threshold as ritual. We design the felt logic of a stay — so the space, not the marketing, does the work.

A felt demonstration

Most spaces keep you at the surface. We design the ones you can see through.

Wipe to see clearly. The steam clears, then slowly settles back — the way a good space keeps doing its work after you've left it.
